By thePresidential Decreeof 30May
1995 “On Training Specialists in the Field
of International Relations”, the Instituteof
International Relations is designated theumbrella
organisation for graduate training, on thebasis
of completegeneral secondary education, of
specialists in the fieldof international relations
and foreignpolicyof Ukraine.
The Instituteof International Relations has
developed its visionof the school for training
specialists in international affairs. Moreover,
the radical changes in theworldwhere the
policyof the sovereignUkraine is beingbuilt
anddeveloped, require that the concept of
training specialists, overall development of the
Institutebe further improved. In2005, the Senate
examined and approved theConcept Paper of
the Institute for theperiod till 2010. As envisaged
by theConcept Paper, the Instituteoffers
Bachelor’s, Specialist’s andMaster’s programmes
in International Relations, International Law,
International Economic Relations, International
Business, International Information.
The international relations specialists are
trained in about 20 languages (among these
areArabic, Chinese, English, French, German,
Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Persian,
Spanish, Turkish, etc.)with taking adegreeof
a translator. Every yearmore then60 students
of the Institute are trained inArabic.With the
assistanceof the Egyptian Foundation for
Technical Co-operationwithCISCountries every
year from5 to20 students undergo language
education in Egypt. The Foundationprovides as
well Institutewith visitingprofessorwho teaches
Arabic language. During last years professors and
students tookpart in various conferences and
seminars in Egypt, Syria, and theUnitedArab
Emirates.
Toensurean in-depth training ina second
foreign language, the Institute setup theForeign
LanguagesCentre. Thecurriculaof normative
coursesprovidecomprehensive studiesof
foreign languages, andareaimedat acquiring
both theoretical knowledgeandpractical skills
(translation, speakinghabitsand interpretation, etc.).
Thedevelopment of linguistic competence
of future specialists in the fieldof international
relations, international law, international
economic relations and international
information is closely related
to themajor subjects taught at
the Institute, aswell as to the
prospectivework of the students.
Training is carriedout through
anumber of consecutive cycles,
providing formastering foreign
languages as tools for the further
training inmajor subjects: Essential
language training; Language for
special Purposes and the Theory
andPracticeof Translation;
Translationworkshops.
Novelmultimediamethods,
computer-based speech laboratories
andequipment for simultaneous
translationareused in training. The
studentsenjoyaccess tomultimedia
roomswhere theyalsowork
independentlyafter classes.
Research is an integral part of
international specialist’s training.
