likeScheherazade’s fairy tale, something
unusual and far. All I can sayabout
Dubai isbasedon the things I’ve read in
thepressandprograms I’ve seenonTV.

with the assistanceof UkrainianTradeCenter
(General Director: Sergey Pachkovskiy) has been a
regular sourceof information forme. I think, this
edition is verynecessarybecause it brings our
countries closer together.
Possibly, in the Emirates, not everyone knows
about scientificpotential of Ukraine, therefore I
amgoing todescribe it briefly. A simpleevidence
of our scientificpotential is the fact that roughly
half of the intellectual scientific and technical
products of theUSSRwasmade inUkraine. After
the collapseof theUSSR, thenecessity in certain
research anddevelopment directions seized to
exist, howevermanyother spheres becameeven
moredeveloped. As a result of this, wewon the
leadingpositions inmaterials science, in space
vessels building, IT, aircraft building, etc.
By theway, recently, in SiliconValley (USA),
Ukrainian scientists presented their latest
developments in the sphereof computer
technologies – a fewprojectswerehighlypraised
byAmericans and received serious support.We
couldorganize similar presentation in theUAE.
Wehavemany tings to sharewith theworld,
sinceUkrainian scientists perform research in
many spheres of academic and applied science.
Just think about the following statistics: National
Academyof Sciences of Ukraine includes about
200 research institutesworking indifferent fields
of science and technology.
–Mr. Yatskiv,whatprojectsofappliednature
couldbeofferedbyUkrainian scientists to the
Emirates today?
–Therearemanyprojects that couldbeoffered.
Right after the request, theNational Academyof
SciencesofUkrainewouldbeable toprovide the
listof ongoingdevelopments incertain spheres
that couldbe implemented inUAE. For instance,
the issueof alternativepower sources isquite
important around theworld today. Emiratescould
grasp the initiativeandestablisha joint venture in
DubaiTechnoparkor Jebel Ali FEZ thatwouldmake
highlyefficientpower supply sources thathavenot
beenproducedanywhere in theworld just yet.We
havecertainachievements in this field.
Tomymind, our colleagues from theEmirates
couldbecome interested in the researchof the
Instituteof ColloidChemistryandWater Chemistry
in the fieldofwater desalination. Another example
wouldbePaton’s Instituteof ElectricalWelding,
whichhasbeena leader in the industry formany
years. The latest development achieved in the
Institute is theunique railwelding technology.
Thereare twoweldingmachinesof this
unprecedented typeoperating in IndiaandChina.
Inorder to implement their projects,
Ukrainian scientists are seekingpartners
inmany countries. Ukrainian Science and
Technology Center, established in 1994, and
financedby theUSA, Canada and European
Union also looks for newpartners. This Center
helps us promote our technologies in theWest.
So far there is noorganizationof this kind that
wouldhelpus cooperatewith theArabworld.
I think, such institutionwouldbe helpful for
UAE if the Emirates side supports and joins the
initiative on its establishment.
– There are anumber of successful free
economic zoneswithdifferent specialties
anda Techno Park operating in the Emirates.
Similar processes take part inUkraine, too.
