During themeetingwithNatalia Boytsun,
DeputyMinister of Economyof Ukraine, it
was also stated that holding the firstmeeting
of Intergovernmental Ukraine- Emirates
Commission andUkraine– Emirates Business
forumwouldhelp stimulate thebilateral
cooperation and increase the trade turnover
between the two countries. Answering the
questionof our correspondent concerning
thepresenceof a formed teamof theBusiness
Council on the Emirates side, Mr. Al-Haidan
said that since thedecisiononUkraine’s Prime
Minister’s visit to theUAEwithin the frameof
the said forumhas beenmade, everythingwill
beorganized in thebest possibleway. He added
that Ukraine can count on thepresenceof the
most important representatives of political and
business eliteof the country.
Mrs. N. Boytsunprovidedbrief descriptionof
the condition andprospects of social-economic
development of Ukraine andexplanations on
the legislativebasis in the fieldof regulationof
investment activities; she also commented the
efforts of Ukraine’s government to improve the
investment climate inorder toprovidebetter
inflowof foreign investments and increase the
efficiencyof their use.
Thedelegationmembers alsometwith the
DeputyMinister of Justiceof UkraineValeria
Lutkovska. During thenegotiations, Ukraine
was offered several international agreements in
order toprovide for almost thewhole rangeof
bilateral legal relationships. Inparticular, these
are agreements onextradition, on legal help in
criminal cases andon cooperation in the field
of legal and judicial assistance in civil cases and
arbitration. Additionally, according toMrs.Valeria
Lutkovska, theUkrainianpartyoffered theUAE
Ministryof Justice to conclude interdepartmental
agreementwith theMinistryof Justiceof Ukraine.
At this time, Ukraine and theUAEhave three
intergovernmental agreements: oneconomic,
trade and technical cooperation (March1995); on
assistance andmutual protectionof investments
(January 2003); on avoidanceof double taxation
(January 2003) and apackageof documents of
interdepartmental nature.
Thedelegationalsovisited theChamber of
Commerceand IndustryofUkraine. Greeting the
guests, theVice-President ofUkraine’sChamber of
Commerceand IndustryValeriyBely stated that
thevolumeof commodityexchangebetween the
twocountries increasedby16%as compared to
thepast year and that over the first fourmonths
of this year, this resultwas $155.5million,which
exceeds the figuresof the sameperiod in2006, by
47%. Out of all CIScountries, Ukraine is theUAE’s
second largest tradepartner, after Russia.
At themeeting, theparties discussed
prospects of cooperationbetweenUkrainian
companiesMostobud and Stolitsa and the
companies involved in restorationof oil wells,
with their UAE counterparts. Mr. Al-Haidan
advised that the latter should contact the
