processes if successful negotiationof all new

Certainly, therewere livelydiscussions of the
leadership and its role in stabilizationof turbulent
processes pertinent to themodernworld. Mr.
Herstner, former Chairmanof theBoardof IBM,
inhis speechemphasized that leadership should
always be supportedby concentration andhigh
degreeof executivediscipline.
I likedverymuch thepresentationsof
certaincompanies from theArabworld.Their
representativesquotedconcreteexamples to
illustratewhat factorsandcircumstancesallowed the
developmentofbusiness.Theyprovidedobjective
analysisofobstacles theyhad tonegotiateand the
resources thatwerenecessary for this.
Reportsof the forumparticipantswere
extremely interestingnot only formebut also for
allmembersofUkrainiandelegation. It isworth
stating that participationofUkrainiandelegation
in this very representative forumbecamepossible
due to theactive support andorganizational
effortsofUkrainianTradeCenter forGulf countries.
SergeyPachkovskiy, Director ofUkrainianTrade
Center actedas the initiator of preparationof the
national standat the forum. As a result, Ukraine
was representedat this exhibition togetherwith
theworldwide knownbrands. By theway, Ukraine
was theonlyparticipant thereout of all CIS
countries. This time, UkrainepresentedDovzhenko
Studios, recreational areas inCrimeaandbusiness
edition“DyelovieEmiraty”(Business Emirates”).
– It isobvious that forums likeLeaders in
Dubai provideuniqueopportunities formaking
newpersonal contacts.Whatmeetingsdidyou
have thisyearat the forum?
– Ingeneral, such largeevents provide
excellent opportunities for contacts andbusiness
talks. For example, I was able toorganize
meetingswith representatives of Saudi Arabia,
UAE, Bahrain andQatar. Thenegotiationswith
representatives of thebanking system and large
business of these countries allowedme to realize
the scaleof interest these countries show in
Ukraine. Theywere talkingprimarily about the
optimizationof investment policy and about
joint events, alsoongovernment level.
–Lastyear,MadlenOlbrite, StateSecretary
of theUSA tookpart in the forum.Youused to
havecontactswithherasUkraine’sForeignAffairs
MinisterandasUkraine’sUN representative.You
spokeverypositivelyaboutyourmeetingwithher
on the forum.Didyouhaveanynewcontactsor
interestingmeetings this time?
–Certainly. I had a chance tomeetwith
myold friendCollinPowell whowas also a
participant of this international forum andwho
delivered a speech there. Thismeeting allowed
me to recall all themeetings and talkswehad
in2000-2003, when I headedUkraine’sMFA and
CollinPowell was the State Secretaryof theUSA.
We truly appreciate all the thingswe
were able towork out then, even though
therewere certainuncommon situations
andUS attitude and approaches towards our
country. Nevertheless, once again I realized
that personal contacts play very important
role, primarilyduring controversialmoments or
misunderstandings.
At thismeetingwithPowellweexchanged
books. Igavehimmybook“DiplomacyandPolicy”.
Hegavemehisbook titled“MyAmerican Journey”.
